I take every chance possible to escape to the ocean! Being near the water has been the equivalent of home for me since I was a child. There’s something special about that fresh salt air. It’s calming and reminds me that everything will be okay. I was so excited to have the opportunity to retreat to Oceanstone Seaside Resort (just minutes from Peggy’s Cove) for some well-deserved rest and relaxation in late February.
Life has been throwing a lot at me and my best friend lately so this was a welcomed getaway. We packed up the cooler and our bags and hopped in the car. We drove to Oceanstone from Halifax and it’s about45-minute drive. The cozy resort is only five minutes from Peggy’s Cove, one of Nova Scotia’s major landmarks. The resort is located right on the water with many cottages and rooms that have beautiful ocean views. They are one of the top wedding destinations in the province and have people visiting year round. A popular spot for corporate events and weekend retreats alike — there’s always something exciting happening on the water.
The property has incredible accommodations. With guest rooms, suites and cottages, there’s something for everyone. We had the pleasure of staying in Holly Hock 1. The suite has recently been updated with fresh coats of paint and it looks so sweet. The blue and white colour scheme really gives it a ‘beachy’ feel. The suite was very spacious with a comfy bed, kitchen, bathroom, table and couch area. We loved being able to cook our own dinner in the coziness of our own space. Plus, the large windows overlooking the water offered some stunning views. Honestly, we had a lovely stay in this suite and loved its position near the main office, yet overlooking the water. LOVE!
When we arrived it was extremely foggy. However, I think the fog on the water is just as beautiful as a sunny day! We loved it. Of course our relaxing evening wouldn’t have been complete without some wine, Scrabble and old re-runs of Law & Order SVU. It was a pretty great girls night, if you ask me.
No trip to Oceanstone is complete without a meal at Rhubarb. The owners, Jim & Diane Buckle, are so welcoming! Rhubarb is one of my favourite places to grab a bite in the province, plus the ocean views can’t be beat. The food is delicious and the ‘Beet Salad’ is my absolute favourite! You have to drop in for a meal or dessert. They’re super accommodating with food allergies as well. They even have a dedicated GF fryer! Trust us… it’s worth the stop & more.
Peggy’s Cove is literally a five minute drive from Oceanstone. The location could not be better. Although it was freezing we still popped over to take in all the beauty that is Peggy. So stunning. A trip to Oceanstone wouldn’t be complete without a photo on the rocks at Peggy’s. We also stopped at Polly’s Cove for a quick winter hike. It was so beautiful and quiet. The entrance to Polly’s is unmarked and just a little further down the road from Peggy’s. This was my first trip to Polly’s Cove but was it ever worth it. I didn’t even notice how cold it was outside because I was taking in the jaw-dropping views. Be sure to go on a little adventure while you’re in the neighbourhood.
Whether you need a solo getaway, a girl’s night or a romantic night with your partner – Oceanstone has got you covered. We promise you won’t regret this cozy retreat. Any season, any room, any time!
Thank you, Oceanstone! We love staying with you.
