Over the summer, we were happy to meet Carly, a local artisan soapmaker and entrepreneur. YYT Soap is a local skincare shop that sells all-natural, handmade soaps, lotions, and so much more. Carly was happy to share some of her products for us to try out, and I am very excited to share our thoughts. Keep reading!
I want to start by saying that of all the products we tried, there is not one we really didn’t like. The products are affordable, high quality, and effective. You can purchase any of the following products at local craft fairs or by contacting Carly. The best way to keep up with where YYT Soap will be popping up next is by following them on Facebook!
The products we tried were: Woody beard oil, French Almond shave soap, Kevin shave soap, Charcoal Tooth Polish, Lollipop body lotion, Pink Lemonade bath bomb, Beach House bath bomb, Glow Tight clay mask, Black Beauty charcoal mask, Coconut Oat Polish, The Giving Tree soap, Salt of the Earth soap, and Smooth Criminal soap. It was quite the haul!!
We can start by chatting about the masks. The Black Beauty and Glow Tight masks were probably our favorite products. They are so smooth and easy to apply, add the right amount of water and the powder creates a paste that glides so gently onto the skin. Add too much water, however, and you’ve got a bit of a mess. I found that just a few droplets are perfect. The masks also come off pretty easily and don’t tug at the skin which is very important to me.
I ended up getting into a routine of applying the charcoal mask and using the charcoal tooth polish while the mask dries every other night.
I had a pimple on my nose when I first started applying the mask that reduced dramatically in size after about a week of this routine!
There is no scent to the mask, which I like because when you wear a mask for 15-20 minutes you do not want to be overwhelmed by perfumes that give you a headache. I highly recommend this product! We had the opportunity to try the Coconut Oat Polish as well. We really loved the smell (just like sweet oatmeal) and how soft and glowy it left our skin feeling. This is an exfoliant, which we didn’t realize right away, so don’t let the clumpy texture deter you. It is brutal if this product gets into your hair, it is really tough to get out! We think you should give this product a try and let us know what you think.
Since I already mentioned it, next we will talk about the Charcoal Tooth Polish. Pardon how messy the jar is in this picture, that is 100% my fault (lol!). I really loved this product and I can see a difference in the whiteness of my teeth. This product doesn’t taste the best (and I didn’t expect it would), but the taste is certainly tolerable for the short amount of time that it is in your mouth, so don’t let that deter you from trying it out. The tooth polish is jet black and if you get it all over your sink or towels (which you will because it is messy) don’t worry because it won’t stain! I know from experience, haha. We also highly recommend you try this product!
I think the Lollipop hand and body lotion is the product I have gotten the most use out of. It smells absolutely amazing and is so hydrating. The smell, however, reminds me more of Christmas than lollipops though. The smallest pump of this product goes a long way, so you are definitely getting your money’s worth.
All of the soaps are so luxurious. Plus they are almost too pretty to use! The scents are all wonderful, but I think The Giving Tree is my favorite- it is earthy and warm, that is the best way I can describe it. It is a nice change from the typical perfumey soap smell.
The bath bombs are certainly the best locally made bath bombs I have ever tried. They fizz into bright colors and give off the nicest smells. Lush is my standard for great bath bombs, and YYT Soap is definitely up there on the scale.
Of all the products I tried, the only product I was disappointed with was the shave soaps. They smell amazing and are very moisturizing, but are difficult to get out of the container and don’t build a great lather (for best results, be sure to use a shave brush). Instead of using them as a medium for shaving, I have been using them as moisturizer post-shave and that definitely works well! Kevin (black pepper & cedar) is my favorite scent- probably out of all of the products!
Last but not least, the Woody beard oil. My partner has been having great results from this product as a beard oil, but I have gotten some use out of it as well! I run it through my hair after a shower, use it on my skin after shaving, and I find it is particularly helpful for ingrown hairs- all without leaving you feeling greasy. Plus patchouli is such an invigorating scent- I really love it.
We highly recommend YYT Soap for your skincare needs. Supporting local is so important to the economy and the environment.
