We are in the heat of summer. July has come to a close and September is right around the corner, but Summer 2017 isn’t a write-off just yet. You still have time to rock your summer wardrobe before we break out the wool sweaters.
There are some trends this summer we just cannot live without and we’re here today to share them with you. All of these pieces can be easily found at the local thrift store or on affordable sites like Forever 21, so you do not have to break the bank to achieve these looks!
Without further adieu, here are the looks we’ve been loving this summer, modelled by our stunning friend Abuk.
Gingham Print
This pretty dress has serious Wizard of Oz-Dorothy vibes. Gingham print has been everywhere this year and we couldn’t help but jump on the bandwagon. This dress was a thrift-store find and our go-to picnic look.
Platform Wedges
The shoes Abuk is wearing are one of my all-time favorites. They have a hippie/70s feel which is a trend right now in itself. I found mine last season at Call it Spring and they are still relevant now. Rock them with a cute sundress or fun flares.
Tie-Up Necklaces
Necklaces that simply tie around the neck are such a dainty and easy addition to any outfit. You can find these anywhere for about $5 or less or make them yourself. I like the gold detailing on this one from ALDO Accessories.
T-Shirt Dresses
These have to be the easiest clothing piece to style. Literally throw them on and out the door you go! They come in a variety of colors and silhouettes that are flattering on any body type. Pair with a denim jacket, tie a flannel on your waist, or throw on your Converse and call it a day.
Striped Blouses
Button-up shirts with stripes in any color have been everywhere this year. We have been sporting them at the beach over swimsuits, with torn up jeans, and with smart trousers. I like dressing down these normally formal shirts by leaving them unbuttoned. Get them for less than $20 from Forever 21.
Denim Shorts
This is obvious, but essential nonetheless. Denim shorts are the perfect piece for summer and can be dressed up or down. Be careful that they do not violate any work or school dress codes, though.
Rompers (and just about anything floral)
A good fitting romper is hard to find. But if you find one that is perfect for you, grab it and never let go! Rompers are so pretty and versatile, you can wear them to a fancy dinner and go overboard on jewelry and sky-high heels or just throw one on to run to the store. A nice romper can have you feeling glam in seconds.
We found this one on sale at Forever 21 for $13!!
A Little Black Dress
This classic piece is great because it can transition from Summer to Fall. Yes, it is a summer essential, but it is also a year-round essential. Abuk is wearing a denim jacket (another staple) but you could also throw on a bright kimono for a more summery feel.
Colorful Bags
A foolproof way to add a pop of color to any outfit is to grab a brightly colored bag. This one is custom made by hand right here in Canada by Rebel Joy Bags. Get one for yourself!
Embroidery
If I had to name my favorite trend of the year, it is definitely this one. I love how cool and eclectic embroidered patterns are on clothes. This crop top was a thrift store find and the stitched-on pattern is incredible. The shoes, pictured above, also have a gorgeous embroidered design and were a steal from Winners.
I have to get my hands on a pair of embroidered jeans next, they are just incredible!
