One of the biggest dilemmas when preparing for vacation: what clothes should I pack? That’s a tough one, no doubt about it. To help you out a little bit, I’ve outlined my staples for a Caribbean vacation based on what I like to wear and what I’ve noticed has been trending lately. This guide is by no means exhaustive, and I am no expert! I just hope to provide you with some inspiration for your next getaway.
My biggest tip? Wear what makes you feel comfortable. You will have no fun if you are doubting yourself. You do you, and you are guaranteed to look stunning!
Midi-Dresses. Calf-length dresses are everywhere lately! They are classy, comfortable, and flattering on all body types. I really like how they elongate my petite frame and make me appear taller. I chose this one from Garage Clothing Co. for the orange stripes and lightweight fabric.
Floral Prints. Any floral pattern will look gorgeous under the tropical sun and is a must-have in your suitcase. Dresses, shirts, shorts, skirts, kimonos, and pants all look great paired with something basic, such as denim shorts like I wore, or a plain shirt with a pretty floral skirt. That said, don’t be afraid to mix patterns- be bold! I love my Brandy Melville floral crop top paired with high-waisted shorts because I am uncomfortable showing my belly button. Make your look work for you!
Denim Shorts. Great because they go with everything and let’s be honest, they can be thrown on 2 or 3 times before they need to be washed. For me, they are a travel essential.
Side note: Some cultures do not appreciate high hemlines. As you can see in the photo below, I was asked to wear a wrap when looking around inside a historic Catholic church in Havana. They respectfully asked me to wear it, and I respectfully obliged. When you travel, it is so important to be courteous of other values and customs.
Rompers and Playsuits. When on vacation, I am not interested in wasting valuable exploring time picking out an outfit. Rompers are great because they are effortless. Haul it on and out the door you go! There are many varieties to choose from: sleeved, sleeveless, strapless, off-the-shoulder, plain, patterned, backless, and the list goes on! You are sure to find one that works for you.
Floppy Hats. Not only stylish but protective. A giant floppy hat will hide your face, eyes, and shoulders from harsh UV rays. I opted for a plain black one from H&M (super affordable!).
Fabric Shorts. OK. I know I’ve suggested shorts twice, but lightweight fabric shorts are perfect for either throwing on over a bathing suit or dressing up for dinner. They are also a great alternative if denim isn’t your thing. In both of these outfits, I was en route to the beach with a bathing suit underneath. These are easy to find just about anywhere in many patterns and colors!
We hope this guide gives you some serious style inspiration! We had a blast snapping these pictures over the course of our trip to Cuba. What are your staples for a vacation? Which outfit was your fave? Let us know in the comments or on our social media, @twowildtides!
