The Grounds Café is located at Murray Meadows Farm in Portugal Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador. Having opened just last year, The Grounds has become a local hotspot and gathering place for live music, happy hour, breakfast, brunch, and dinner. With an always changing menu, good prices, and options for every diet, The Grounds Café is suitable for everyone.
I was a little late getting out to visit this place, but I’m very glad I finally did. The atmosphere is so chic and minimalistic; with trendy wooden and wrought iron decor, comfortable and varied seating options, and plants placed everywhere– I was truly impressed. I could have stayed there all day! The owners and staff must truly want to foster an environment where people feel welcome to just come and hang out while enjoying some good food because there are board games laid out for their guests to use if they please. I appreciate that they are not interested in a quick table turnover but rather a slow-paced and relaxing place for friends to gather in.
The Grounds Café always uses the freshest ingredients possible, and from their own farm whenever they can. Almost everything seems to be made in-house. I had a tofu bowl (which was vegan and GF) with a coffee and San Pellegrino. The tofu bowl was loaded with fresh greens, beets, apple, pickled carrots, quinoa with a delicious dressing, and marinated tofu. It was so tasty, satisfying, and filling. All of this cost only $16 + a tip.
For dessert, my friend and I shared a rich and fudgy salted brownie and finished off our coffees. Don’t forget to look around their gift shop for a cute little succulent in local pottery, some Indigena products, or a gorgeous hanging plant.
I had a great experience at The Grounds Café– no complaints here. I can’t wait to go back! The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was delicious, guilt-free, and affordable, and the atmosphere was welcoming (and totally Instagram-able!!). I highly recommend that you and your best friends check it out sometime soon! They often hold pop-ups, so keep an eye on their Instagram (@thegroundsatmurrays) for up-to-date information and announcements.
Apologies for the photo quality– they were all shot on my iPhone!
