Days off are few and far between. This summer has been a whirlwind adventure and I’ve been so busy. Yet, it’s been the best summer of my entire life. I’ve traveled the world and will have hit three continents before it ends. I’ve met some pretty awesome people and have just found this new sense of freedom. I’m just loving life and trying not to get too stressed about school coming up. So when I do have a day off it’s often spent ‘adulting’ rather than adventuring. But the other day I found myself at the Halifax Waterfront with my roommate, checking out some of the tall ships. Then practically out of nowhere, with 10 minutes to spare we decided to go Deep Sea Fishing with Murphy’s the Cable Wharf. It just so happened this was the spontaneous adventure that I needed.
We set out on our 3-hour fishing adventure. It was about 40 minutes before we dropped our lines for the first time. Now, this adventure was spontaneous so I was dressed in a cute little outfit with my Kate Spade purse in tow (completely unprepared). Regardless, this little country girl wasn’t afraid of getting her hands dirty. The ride out was really beautiful. The tall ships were in and the fog was starting to lift in the harbour. We got a great view of George’s Island before disappearing into the fog further out in the water.
We hit up a couple different fishing spots and people were catching fish left, right and center. I was snapping photos of the experience giving it a try here and there. I had a couple bites on my line but during the last 60 seconds, I caught my very first fish! I had never been fishing before in my life so I thought this was pretty cool!
At one point during the excursion, a bird got so close to the boat and got tangled up in a line. The Captain was absolutely amazing and immediately went to the bird’s rescue! The bird got pretty cozy on the boat and we were able to take a couple pretty great photos. The Captain and crew were super helpful and kind. Great group.
As we were heading back inland we saw a Minky whale! It was the first whale that I had ever seen so I thought it was amazing. Between the bird and the whale, we got a little bonus wildlife tour.
It turned out to be the exact spontaneous adventure that I needed. There’s something to be said for getting out of your comfort zone. I’m grateful for little adventures even if they’re only for 3 hours in my own city. It was well worth it – a great tour for anyone eager to catch some dinner!
xoxo,
