Amsterdam was hands down one of the most amazing cities I’ve had the privilege of visiting. I could have wandered the streets for hours on end. There’s a relaxed pace and feel to the city despite it being a touristic hot spot. From the canals to the people, to the museums, to the fries with mayo – it was an incredible pit stop.
We were fortunate enough to have teamed up with Tours & Tickets for a boat cruise and a walking tour. These two tours were informative and really gave us a taste of Dutch culture. Franka van der Veen was the Online Marketer that arranged the tours for us and had the tickets waiting for us upon our arrival. It was well organized and easy to find. The two tours provided us with a great overview of the city.
I had been itching to get on the water and I was so excited to see the city from the canals. It definitely provided us with a different perspective and provided us with some stunning views of the city. The old houses along the canals have so much character and charm. They made for some pretty breath-taking sites. However, the canals were quite dirty, I was disappointed with how much garbage was floating in them. In a city this beautiful it’s a shame not to keep the water free from pollution. Despite this, the tour was great. It was a nice way to get some time on the water and was definitely the perfect length. I would recommend arriving early to ensure you get your seat of choice as it fills up quickly. The captain was funny and had a couple stories for us. If you’re looking for a quick tour through the canals – this is for you!
This tour was about 2 1/2 hours and also provided a really solid overview of the city. It hit all of the main points of interest including Dam Square and The Red Light District. The tour guide was knowledgeable and helpful. There was even an opportunity to try some traditional Dutch cheeses. We found the tour a little repetitive because we had previously explored many of the areas on our own. However, this tour would be the perfect thing to do on your first day in Amsterdam! It would be a great way to get your bearings and a sense of the city.
I fell in love with Amsterdam. It has so much character and culture. Plus the fries with mayo are game-changing. I could easily see myself spending an extended period of time there, perhaps living there for a year or so. There’s something pretty special about this city. I’ll be back. Thanks for the wild adventure!
