The Ocean Varadero El Patriarca was absolutely fantastic!
It all started with an upgrade to the ‘Privilege’ section, or in other terms, the first class section. This was exciting and unexpected (perks of being a writer!). We were quickly greeted by our butler, Jay. He toured us around the resort and escorted us to our room.
Our room was great. It was complete with everything that we needed and more. The room was comfortable and spacious. It came with a full bath tub and stand alone shower, large sink area, a safe, and a cute little balcony. We even had our own mini fridge that got re-stocked every day. Everything we needed or wanted was at our disposal, thanks to the wonderful staff.
During our stay, we had two butlers, Jay and Zuri. Dayma, the concierge was also extremely kind and welcoming. They were always there to help us out! They made À la Carte reservations for us and even helped organize a car for us to Varadero to visit the Beatles Bar. They were our immediate contact throughout our stay and helped us with literally everything. They’re the best!
As part of the Privilege section of the resort we had access to a special restaurant, swimming pool/bar and a little roped off area on the beach. These added bonuses were definitely highlights of our stay. These areas were typically a little calmer and provided us with a little more privacy.
As someone with a lot of allergies, I was a little nervous about finding safe foods during my stay. However, the staff was absolutely exceptional in accommodating my allergies. The Privilege staff did an excellent job of making other staff members throughout the entire resort aware of my allergies. I didn’t have a problem during my entire stay. I found that I had the most options at the Privilege restaurant, Ranchon Playa and the main buffet (Junior served up some of the most delicious grilled fish!). The Privilege restaurant (my fave!) had a patio that overlooked the beach and it was my favourite place to have breakfast. Whether you were eating an omelet or just sipping a coffee, the view was amazing! Lily was often our server in the mornings and she’s an absolute sweetheart. We frequented Ranchon Playa for lunch and found it to be tasty and loved the location. Hector was always our server (he’s amazing!) and even had the chefs make food to accommodate my allergies!
The beach is absolutely stunning and there were always chairs available in the Privilege section. The water was unbelievably warm and clear. You could stay in the water all afternoon and love every second! The beach goes for miles and is ideal for those early morning or evening walks. We spent most of our time on the beach, soaking up the sun. However, we also spent time at the Privilege pool which was a wonderful, quiet oasis. We didn’t spend time at the main pool but it was huge and gorgeous. The entire grounds were beautiful and it was such a treat to spend every day in the sunshine.
There are many activities throughout the days and entertainment shows every evening. There’s never a dull moment. It’s wonderful to sit back with a mojito and enjoy.
We loved our stay at the Ocean Varadero El Patriarca! We would highly recommend this resort if you’re considering a trip to Varadero.

We are travelling with three families and now have two independent reviews of the two hotels that we have been trying to decide on.
Did you also go to the Ocean Azul?
If you had to choose between the two for your next vacation together, which would you choose?
Ocean Azul or Ocean Varadero El Patriarca?

Hey Audrey! Thank you for your comment. Sorry for our late response. Both hotels are absolutely beautiful and family friendly. You can check out our article about Vista Azul here.
I think if we had to choose, we’d stay at El Patriarca.
