It is that time of the year again- cooler weather, leafless trees, light snowfall… and dry skin. I always change up my routine as winter closes in because the cold, damp weather zaps the life right out of my skin.We partnered with Indigena Skincare to bring you a skincare routine that will bring back your glowing, radiant skin.
Indigena Skincare products are locally made in Newfoundland with handpicked botanicals from our land and sea. All of their products are completely natural, organic, and chemical-free, designed with harsh east coast weather in mind, and rich in anti-oxidants. You all know by now how important the ocean and our east coast roots are to us at twowildtides- so you can understand why we love Indigena.
My Winter Skincare Routine (illustrated by my beautiful sister)
As I said, I change my routine with the seasons, however, one thing that remains the same is my eye makeup remover: good old coconut oil. I find coconut oil better than any product because it is so gentle on my eyelashes and even helps them grow. Remove all of your makeup and then we can get started!
Step One: dampen your skin and wash away the day with the Rooibos Tea Cleanser. This is the perfect cleanser for winter months because it doesn’t contain any water! Water is inherently linked with moisture, so most people think it is a good ingredient in skincare products. The truth is, when water evaporates it strips your skin of its natural oils, leaving it feeling dry.
Step 2: scrub away those dry, dead skin cells with the Blueberry Bliss Sugar Scrub. This exfoliant has a coconut oil base and an incredible citrus scent, plus NL blueberry seeds make it anti-oxidant rich. Don’t forget to exfoliate your lips! Step three: keeping with the blueberry theme, it’s at this point I use the Blueberry Bliss Face Masque if my skin is looking extra dull or if I have a stubborn breakout. It is made with fermented blueberry which reduces redness, while fresh rosehip rejuvenates. Pour a small amount into the palm of your hand, add a drop of water, and give it a little mix. Either spread it all over your face or concentrate it on problem areas and let it sit for about 10 minutes. When it dries, brush it off or rinse it off with room temperature water. (as I’m writing this, I have a glob of the masque on my nose trying to fight off a pimple!)
Step 4: once weekly I use the Sea Goddess Sea Weed Skin Bar. This little gem contains Northern Bay Sands, which when combined with soothing botanicals from the sea, is the perfect gentle exfoliant. This is different from the previous exfoliant because the soapiness of the skin bar gives your pores a deeper clean, removing any dirt and toxins. Step five: pat your face dry with a clean towel and moisturize with the Sea Veggie Facial Lotion. This lotion will quench your skin’s thirst with its aloe base and rich nutrients. Like the rooibos tea cleanser, this product does not contain water. Rub it on in gentle circles all over your face for a clean glow. Because this moisturizer is on the oily side, it is really only suitable for dry skin.
Step six: last but not least, moisturize your lips with the Smooch Lib Balm. Use this nightly for soft lips, then throw it in your purse or pocket to keep them hydrated throughout the day. This lip balm is enriched with Labrador Tea, an incredibly powerful antioxidant, and has a Canadian beeswax base, which will prevent your lips from cracking and peeling. If you want to shorten up the process, just use the sea veggie moisturizer on your lips as well. All of Indigena’s products are food grade, so if you accidentally get it in your mouth, it won’t hurt you (and it might even taste good!).And that’s it! These products are incredible and make my skin feel soft, clear, and radiant. A huge thank you to Indigena Skincare for collaborating with us on this article.
