Eating fresh, healthy food is really important to us at twowildtides. We like to ensure that we’re properly fueling our bodies for our everyday activities. We love to eat don’t get us wrong, but we realize that the food we put into our bodies is literally what keeps us going. It’s important to respect your body and all of its capabilities. One of our favourite quotes is: “Eating well is a form of self-respect.” –Unknown.Aside from our food being clean and colourful we like to ensure that it’s local (when possible). Not only does eating local taste great but it also supports the hard working farmers in our area. Whether you’re a busy student or working full-time, eating fresh, healthy and locally can be challenging. We find that when we plan our meals in advance it helps us to eat a variety of different foods while also staying on budget. Check out the local meal cooked with fresh produce & local products below.Farm Fresh Ingredients:
Carrots
Green & Yellow Beans
Flying Saucer Squash
Kale
New small potatoes
Chicken
Cider
Ginger Lime Thyme Jelly
I picked up all of these tasty ingredients from two local farmers markets (Stirling’s & Avery’s), a roadside stand, The Tangled Garden and The Annapolis Valley Cider Company. Locally sourced food is delicious and nutritious. Think twice when you buy your groceries and do your best to support local!
The meal was complete with sautéed kale, steamed beans, and carrots, roasted new potatoes, mashed squash and BBQ chicken with a ginger thyme lime glaze. It was a delicious locally grown and prepared meal. To top it off, we enjoyed a cold glass of cider. We like to season our meals with a touch of olive oil, pink Himalayan salt, fresh basil and garlic (but the possibilities are endless). What are your healthy eating tips & tricks?
