Transitioning your wardrobe from season to season can be difficult. Colours change, trends change, the weather changes, but that doesnt mean you have to give up your favourite pieces. Don’t pack away the summer dresses and shorts – they may be more versatile than you think!
1. TIGHTS
Who told you to put away those cute summer dresses? Try wearing tights, stockings, or leggings underneath, to keep you warm while also looking fresh.
Pair this dress from Bethany Mota’s line at Aeropostale with maroon tights and a floppy hat.
2. KNITS
Throw on a knit sweater over a pretty summer dress. This tip would look fabulous with any style of dress, but by wearing a dress that buttons up you can achieve that cute peek-a-boo collar look.
For HTGAWM fans, this look is very Laurel-esque!
If your dress is sleeveless, try this knit (pictured to the left) from Garage Clothing that has shoulder cut-outs (only available in stores).
3. LAYERS
Combine the first two ideas and layer a knit over a summer dress and tights. Layering can be intimidating but if you stick within the same colour family your outfit will look super chic- not busy.
If it’s an exceptionally chilly day, throw on a trendy fall jacket and a beanie for some added warmth.
4. TURTLENECKS + DENIM
Let’s be honest for a second- denim shorts are basically our entire summertime look. Welcome the fall season by sporting them with a stylish turtleneck in your favourite earthy tone.
You could also wear them with a knit like the one pictured above!
5. SLEEK SILHOUETTES
Flowy skirts are very reminiscent of summer and are being featured less and less on runways as we transition into autumn.
Button up skirts are everywhere right now – the straight cut makes them perfect for fall and they come in a variety of styles and colours.
Try denim or pleather for a more textured look!
6. BOOTS
Boots are the epitome of fall fashion. Wear them with any of your summer faves to instantly add an autumn vibe.
Try long boots like the ones pictured with a summer dress, or if booties are more your thing, they would look fabulous too!
Some other great fall footwear options that would work for this look are lace-up boots, army-style boots (like Doc Martens!), or cowboy boots.
7. JEANS
This one is a little obvious – swapping shorts for pants is a great way to keep you warm on cool fall days.
These denim flares scream ‘1970s’, a style that has been huge this year. But, if these are too bold for you, try some laid-back boyfriend jeans or a simple skinny leg.
